Introducing the 2019 Mayor’s Cup Award

For the past 39 years, the Fort Worth International Taekwondo Championships has brought thousands of people — competitors and their families — to Fort Worth each October for a full weekend of competition. In addition to its draw and acclaim as a premier international Taekwondo tournament venue, this annual event has brought a significant economic impact to the City of Fort Worth through local accommodations, restaurants, sight-seeing, retail, and entertainment. In recognition of the impact and influence of this renowned annual Taekwondo event, as well as several related events that brought the Korean National Taekwondo Demonstration team to Fort Worth, the City of Fort Worth has recognized the Fort Worth International Taekwondo Championships, and its founder and tournament director, Grandmaster Won Chik Park with proclamations including Taekwondo Week in Fort Worth (1995), Key to the City (2003) and Won Chik Park Day (2005).

This year, to highlight and express deep appreciation for this long and wonderful relationship between the Fort Worth International Taekwondo Championships and the City of Fort Worth, we welcome Mayor Betsy Price to the tournament’s opening ceremonies with a special mayors cup award and celebration of all we have accomplished together through this event, both for taekwondo and for the City of Fort Worth.
